Job Description
A well-established company in Healdsburg seeking a Cargo Tank Inspector/Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of truck-mounted cargo tanks and trailers used for transporting petroleum (DOT 406, MC 306), fertilizer, hazardous liquids, cement, and food products.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining our high industry standards and delivering exceptional service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive VIKP inspections of cargo tanks to ensure compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
- Perform trailer repairs including suspension, axle replacement, wiring diagnostics, frame straightening, and structural reinforcement.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues across various trailer types.
- Utilize welding and mechanical skills to repair and maintain DOT-compliant cargo tanks.
- Cut, weld, and repair ferrous and non-ferrous metals using acetylene and electrical welding equipment.
- Install and integrate truck bodies, hook lifts, pump systems, PTOs, and other specialized equipment.
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings for accurate installation and repairs.
- Conduct post-installation inspections and pressure tests to verify integrity and compliance.
- Maintain detailed and accurate repair documentation, parts requisitions, and inspection reports.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, adhering to safety procedures at all times.
- Stay up to date on all cargo tank regulations and safety best practices.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certified Welder.
- Minimum 3 years of cargo tank repair experience as a registered inspector.
- Strong knowledge of cargo tank regulations and safety standards.
- Must have your own toolbox and tools up to 1”.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- Excellent communication, computer, and numeracy skills.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Frequent bending, crawling, climbing, and standing.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Exposure to mechanical parts, odors, and airborne particles.
Compensation & Schedule:
- Competitive hourly wage of $35 - $50/hr (based on experience).
- Day Shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm (Monday – Friday)
